Mitsubishi Motor Corp has stopped temporary production of Outlander plug-in Hybrid crossover PHEV Outlander variant and i-MiEV electric car variant, because they found problem in the batteries.
Lithium ion battery that plug in Outlander plug-in Hybrid was melted in one of car dealer and the others battery was burned in one of the manufacture factory.
Mitsubishi itself still not found the reason why this happened. Mitsubishi still doing investigation for this problem and the shipment to the customer are temporary delay.
Outlander Plug-in Hybrid itself only sold in Japan and since it first launched, Mitsubishi has sold 4 thousand unit and so far, it potential will get that problem. Mitsubishi still not giving recall statement before the investigation was done.
Namie Koketsu, Mitsubishi spokesperson said that they hope the problem in the batteries not affect to the Outlander Hybrid launch in United States. Mitsubishi also suggest to the owner of Outlander Hybrid that not to recharge the batteries from it plug-in and deactivate the recharge feature when the car is running.
