Manufacturing Chevrolet serious about exploring the electric car segment. Having succeeded with the sedan volt, This American manufacturers are preparing electric cars in the city car class.

Subsidiary of the General motors are developing "Chevrolet Spark EV". The company will market this model in 2014.

Chevrolet Spark EV driven by oil-cooled electric motor and permanent magnet that can generate power 134 hp with torque reaching 542 Nm. Accelerate from a standstill to 100 km / h only takes less than 8 seconds

"When our team developed the propulsion system for the Spark EV, we realized had to show something surprising acceleration fun-to-drive with maximum efficiency" explained Chief Engineer Spark EV, Chuck Russell.




Chevrolet Spark EV are getting power from the lithium-ion battery with a power of 20 kWh. The battery is located under the rear passenger seat and the trunk. General Motors provides a warranty for eight years for this battery.



Using Combo SAE technology, Chevrolet Spark EV battery can be charged as much as 80 percent in just 20 minutes. As for fully charged, it takes seven hours using a 240V electrical power. The owner can also manage and monitor the battery remotely using a special application on a smartphone offered by OnStar.
General Motors claimed 75 percent of the components of the propulsion system from the Volt and GM hybrid truck program. Chevrolet Spark EV reportedly will make it's debut in the United States in early 2013 on the future in California.
