Volvo - Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection

Volvo always serious to inventing safety technology for driving and around their neighborhood. Their new invented is Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection with Full auto brake and has been launched in Geneva Auto Show 2013.

This technology can detected also doing automatic brake when are pedestrian or cyclist suddenly pass the front side of car. Due the accident data, there are 50% cyclist were killed in Europe because crashing with a car.

"As one of the Automotive Safety Technology pioneer, We are the first one in this industry that applicated all detection and automatic brake technology simultaneously. From first generation of brake assist in 2006 to pedestrian detection with full auto brake in 2010" Doug Speck, Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Car Group.

With the latest software including the speed of processing system, it possible for this technology to have more wider sensor area. Finally fast detection and direct respond for slowing the car speed until it stop. It minimize the chance of accident with cyclist or pedestrian.

This feature combined the camera and radar function. Integrate in grill position, the camera taken place in the front rearview mirror and central control unit. The radar function is detected an object then calculated it distance. Camera function is to definition that object. Central Control unit will keep monitoring and taking a decision what has to do.

Pedestrian and Cyclist detection with full auto brake will be planted in V40, S60, V60, XC60, V70, XC70 and S80 variant in Mei 2013.
